The
MBA program in Supply Chain Management
at NC State University is unique among business
schools. With the support of the Supply
Chain Resource Consortium, an industry/university
partnership, the program brings the industry
into the classroom, involving students,
faculty and supply chain professionals in
finding solutions to the real industry problems.
This project-based approach to education
reflects the new model for business schools
described by Peter Drucker.

Peter Drucker...
"Management is a practice, like medicine;
and the model should have been the medical school,
where the bulk of the teaching, especially the
most important teaching of the M.D. in his or
her residency, is performed by practitioners.
Unlike medicine, where you can bring sick patients
into the classroom, business education does not
allow you to bring an organization into the classroom.
You can, however, bring experience in through
your faculty and students. Business educators
should be out as practitioners where the problems
and results are." |

Summer
2004
Recruitment Begins
by
Scott Hudson
SCRC staff

Spring semester is the time students look
for the perfect summer job opportunity.
The experience gained in a summer internship
will help a student decide what type of
work he/she wants to pursue upon graduation.
All students are encouraged by the MBAs
RedWall
career center to obtain a summer job.
SCRC members John Deere and Sonoco are
recruiting on-campus for supply chain
related summer internships. The companies
will sponsor a luncheon and give a short
presentation. Students interested in the
companies for either full-time or summer
employment are encouraged to attend the
luncheons to learn about the company and
the opportunities available.
These luncheons give our member companies
an opportunity to highlight supply chain
careers within its organization. The summer
internships give students real world supply
chain experience while companies have
meaningful work completed. These opportunities
mutually benefit both the student and
the company. Students have posted several
articles on this web site about their
summer internship experiences at Milliken,
John
Deere, and Progress
Energy.
The SCRC provides members with the opportunity
to contact the brightest supply chain
students. The SCRC Website also provides
companies with a resume
search service. If you are interested
in sponsoring a company luncheon and a
summer internship, contact the SCRC for
more information.
The details of future recruiting events
by John Deere and Sonoco follow. Students
are encouraged to contact the RedWall
career center for more information.
